Yet another Google facelift?
September 22nd, 2006
I just stumbled upon a possible new Google search layout:
I’ve seen this layout once before, but slightly different. Note that the horizontal menu has been replaced by a vertical one on the left hand side, with options to search Images, Maps, News, Groups, Videos, Books, and Froogle on the top and bottom of the page. Also, the ads seemed to have disappeared. I’m not sure I like how the left menu is eating into the search results real estate–it would be better to stick with the traditional horizontal menu near the search box.
Is anyone else seeing this? Or has my IP yet again been singled out for beta testing?

I have seen it before and I don’t know why it appears sometimes… but I HATE IT! I have unlimited vertical space, and limited horizontal space. So don’t waste it with a long white bar Google! - lb

Yes i have seen it too. But i dont think its goos in any way . There are lots of free space seen everywhere. The old one was a lot better . I guess google should display ads without sposnsored ads there seems something missing in search result

I’ve seen this before via Google Operating System blog. I think a simple explanation is that this is a good lay out for handheld devices such as cell phones that have screens with larger length than width.

I don’t like the new (!) face-lift. There should be an option to collapse the left-hand bar. Otherwise it would look like a malformed page barely able to fulfil what it predecessor(s) have done before.
